The main aim of the project was to optimize the packaging for logistics by fitting more products per shipping container. To do this, we needed to find a way of minimising the empty and unused space in the packaging, while ensuring that the packaging is functional and easy to handle

Optimising logistics 

Apart from reducing the empty, redundant space in the helmet boxes to size-optimise them, we also redesigned the the pedestal which fixates the helmet inside the box in a way that it can be assembled only through folding. Moreover, using only folding and cardboard snaps dispenses the use of glue, is an advantage when the box material is recycled as paper.

 (Forest Stewardship Certification) cardboard for the boxes, which reduces the environmental impact of the material as it ensures that the raw material is sourced from responsibly managed forests.

The pedestal which fixates the helmet inside the box in is designed without glue, and in such a way that it can be assembled only through folding.

The label stretches from top to bottom on the front. This way, you get all the necessary information both when the box is in the distribution packaging and standing on the shop shelf.  

, the number of products that fit in each container has increased, resulting in an overall cut in logistics emissions by 25% percent. Moreover, the redesign of the pedestal cuts assembly and boxing time on the production line from three minutes to one minute. The removal of glue from the pedestal facilitates recycling, and the added finger holes (for grabbing) on top and in front facilitate handing in stockrooms and shops.

Reduced C02 emissions by 25% and quicker assembly

In redesigning the boxes, we took advantage of the opportunity to improve the product information display. By gathering generic product information in one place, we created more clean areas that can be used for brand communication and specific model information. We also created a flexible modular label system that is easy to build on and arrange according to the product model. The label stretches from top to bottom on the front. This way, you get all the necessary information both when the box is in the distribution packaging and standing on the shop shelf.  

With unnecessary empty space reduces, more boxes can be stacked in a smaller space, ultimately reducing the footprint from logistics.
